ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:

PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The purpose of the NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora Project is to strengthen Tanzania’s public health supply chain and pharmaceutical services to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable health commodities. The Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora Project must work to develop the capacity of local systems, institutions, and individuals to sustainably manage supply chains, for both client-procured health commodities and those procured through national/local systems, and to strengthen local pharmaceutical management systems, including quality pharmaceutical services and national regulatory systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform desktop and laptop computer support, including performing routine preventive maintenance, installing software patches and upgrades, and troubleshooting hardware or software problems
  • Designing and maintaining critical infrastructure for JSI - UBAB systems. Coordinate with compliance specialists/ IT regional staff to document, isolate, and resolve any breach in server security
  • Technical advisory on specific solutions based on requirements for Project server and Government server needs
  • General Linux server administration and management
  • Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, hot fixes on servers
  • Manage and implement best security practices including encryption on Linux servers
  • Manages the project’s computer network, coordinating with IT regional staff and/or vendors, as well as IT staff in the US
  • Ensure a stable, consistent office internet connection throughout the site office, report any issues and work with ISP to resolve them.
  • Ensure file server backups are completed successfully (if applicable)
  • Maintain ‘Workstation Inventory List’, tracking the physical inventory of all equipment (PC’s, laptops, printers, etc.), and update the Asset Records on a Monthly basis on ServiceNow.
  • Provide technical support for the resolution of major outages, network, or system failures such as but not limited to server crashes, firewall failures, virus attacks, etc.)
  • Create (and update as required) a Disaster Recovery Plan for the servers and office
  • Ensure each JSI system has valid certificates and up-to-date security tools, and that all staff members adhere to Cyber Security rules and processes
  • Always be aware of newly discovered server, infrastructural or system vulnerabilities and plan for immediate remedies.
  • Ensure high server availability and continuously review and implement redundancy plans
  • Install software and database services required on the servers e.g. NGIX, APACHE, TOMCAT, DJANGO, MySQL etc.
  • Manage users, permissions, and secure access to the systems.
  • Proactively monitor system performance, log faults, analyze and resolve performance exceptions and document solutions
  • Work with developers and other constituents for server capacity planning.
  • Create and modify scripts or applications to perform tasks
  • Provide input on ways to improve the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the server environment
  • Maintain inventory of all server and software installations done for each country and ensure timely upgrades and decommissioning of servers and resources
  • Any other related duties assigned by the supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a related field with sufficient training in server administration disciplines
  • At least four years of working experience managing multiple Linux servers or a server firm
  • Demonstrable expertise in securing Linux servers Demonstrable experience in server diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Fluency in English
