The purpose of the NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora Project is to strengthen Tanzania’s public health supply chain and pharmaceutical services to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable health commodities. The Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora Project must work to develop the capacity of local systems, institutions, and individuals to sustainably manage supply chains, for both client-procured health commodities and those procured through national/local systems, and to strengthen local pharmaceutical management systems, including quality pharmaceutical services and national regulatory systems.

The Knowledge Management (KM) and Communications Manager is a full-time position and will support effective communication, knowledge sharing, and visibility of project achievements. This role involves developing and implementing KM and communications strategies, managing content production, and enhancing internal and external engagement to support the project’s objectives. The KM and Communications Manager will report to the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Director, with a dotted line to the Chief of Party and work closely with project teams, stakeholders, and funders to deliver high-quality communications outputs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Knowledge Management
  • Lead the development, implementation, and periodic updating of the project’s KM strategy to enhance learning and knowledge sharing among stakeholders.
  • Design and manage systems for organizing, tracking, and curating project documentation (print, digital, and multimedia).
  • Develop and disseminate internal approaches to keep partners and staff informed about project updates and achievements.
  • Organize and facilitate online learning and sharing events using platforms such as Zoom, WebEx, or similar tools.


Communications
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies and action plans aligned with project goals and funder priorities to promote visibility and impact.
  • Draft, write, and edit content, including success stories, reports, presentations, briefs, social media, and messaging materials.
  • Manage the full production cycle for communications products, including copy editing, design, printing, and dissemination.
  • Liaise with the project’s senior leadership team, JSI Corporate Communications Advisor and Department of State on media/press engagement, including developing press releases/briefs as needed
  • Ensure compliance with project contract’s branding guidelines and organizational standards in all communications.
  • Collaborate with the project’s senior leadership team to identify and act on communications opportunities, ensuring cohesive external messaging.
  • Coordinate with communications consultants and vendors for photography, videography, and publication design as needed.


Capacity Strengthening
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for project staff on effective writing, storytelling, photography, and presentation skills.
  • Provide guidance to project teams on organizational and project contract’s branding, KM practices, and communication tools.


Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as the liaison between the project and Department of State KM/communications teams to ensure alignment and collaboration.
  • Participate in KM working groups, as needed, and coordinate communications efforts across project partners.
  • Plan and manage communications-related events, such as conferences, webinars, and knowledge-sharing forums; represent the project at relevant external conferences and manage participation, including preparing all booth materials and organizing staffing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants for this position should be Tanzanian nationals or lawful residents who possess the following minimum qualifications in Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public health, international affairs, or a related field.
  • At least 5-7 years of progressive experience in communications and knowledge management, preferably within non-governmental organization or international development.
  • Proven expertise in developing and implementing communication and KM strategies.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite (experience with other digital tools is a plus).
  • Demonstrated experience in digital communications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with US Department of State (DOS) or similar donor branding and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to travel within Tanzania.
